The WAVVE original drama “You Raise Me Up” released on the 31st of last month is a hot and lively comedy in which Do Yong-sik (Yoon Si-yoon), who is in his 30s, reunites with his first love, Roo-da (Hani). It is gaining word of mouth for drawing favorable reviews as a ‘healing drama’ with a video of unraveling extracted material with witty elements and a pleasant message of consolation.
Yoon Si-yoon described “You Raise Me Up” as a ‘ramen-like work’. He said, “It’s always next to me like ramen, no matter how trivial the contents are, I keep watching it when I turn it on”, adding, “It’s true that every time I work, I’m tired of thinking that I have to produce better results than before. However, it was a work that made me realize that it was accessible and that it could impress viewers even with light and small themes. That’s why I feel lighter and wider in choosing and challenging works”, he said.
Yoon Si-yoon plays the role of Do Yong-sik, a 31-year-old public examiner. He is a person who heals wounds by meeting his first love as his doctor at a time when he has run out of self-esteem due to signs of abnormalities in his masculine health. Yoon Si-yoon, who challenged a character with an unconventional setting of erectile dysfunction, said, “I thought it was an interesting setting rather than a shocking one. I was curious while reading the script by drawing points that were difficult to draw and I said I would do it right away”, he said.
Civil service test taking student in his 30s, who lost confidence due to repeated failures, is a pathetic figure. Yoon Si-yoon said that Yong-sik, a man with a shrunk body and mind, resembles him a lot, saying, “I’m not that far behind my character. He said, “I’m clumsy, I have a low self-esteem. I felt like I was getting stronger and happier through the process of Yong-sik gradually regaining and growing his lost self-esteem through various trials and errors to treat erectile dysfunction”.
Yoon Si-yoon said, “You Raise Me Up” is a story that eventually fills self-esteem. In fact, as an actor, I have fought a lot with self-esteem. And what I realized is that self-esteem is focusing on me and what I am and what I want”, he said. He also said, “I’m not sacrificing myself now for a big goal, but achieving and feeling excited about the very small things I can do is my own way to overcome my self-esteem”.
He also expressed his feelings about working with Hani. Yoon Si-yoon said, “The more we talked about each other’s love history, the more latent love cells began to appear”, he explained. He, who has actually met someone like Roo-da said, “My dating style is actually like Yong-sik and Roo-da. I’m grateful that I’ve grown and matured by meeting people like Roo-da who embrace and protect my shortcomings”, he added.
Has Yoon Si-yoon ever lost his self-esteem or fallen into a slump enough to think he lost everything? He said, “It was the hardest before I went to the army. Two years of hiatus was quite hard. I was most worried that I would be forgotten and that no one would ask for me anymore. I wasn’t sure, but I comforted myself while constantly reading books about acting and managing my weight”.
Yoon Si-yoon also reported being casted on the movie “Birth”. “I’m waiting for the works with a positive mind”, he said adding, “I want to shoot a series of bright works and try lyrical works dealing with inner stories next time”.
